About Us
Built on Lake Erie Since 1986
Forty years ago, Ship Shape Marine was one guy, a dock, and a lot of stubbornness.
Kevin Leneghan opened the business in 1986 because he loves boats more than he loved doing anything else. No investors, no franchise playbook - just a genuine conviction that Port Clinton boat owners deserved better work than they were getting.
Four decades later, the "one guy" part has changed. We're now a crew of 40+, working out of two locations on Lake Erie, and we handle everything from a weekend runabout that needs its gelcoat buffed out to an offshore yacht coming in for a full systems overhaul. What hasn't changed is the standard Kevin set on day one: if it's not right, it's not done.
Real certifications, not just a claim on a website.
Four of our technicians are Hatteras-certified - factory-level training that most marine shops in the region simply don't have. That's not a detail we bury in the fine print; it's why boat owners drive past closer shops to bring their work to us. Fiberglass repair, paint, wood refinishing, osmosis and blister repair - every job gets handled by people who've been trained to the manufacturer's own standard, not just "good enough for the lake."
